The monthly trend monitor provides a unique data-driven overview over the most important global consumer, industry, and society trends. How it works: We use the SONAR trend radar, which tracks the volume of written scientific and journalistic publications on a certain trend, to find out what the top five trends are in these three categories. Top 5 Consumer Trends in March 2024

Digital Reputation Management emerges as the leading consumer trend, with Snackification and Silver Dating following closely behind. Notably, Snackification demonstrates the most significant year-over-year growth among the top five consumer trends. Self-Employment is the only trend among the top consumer trends from the previous month’s ranking that carried over into the March rankings.

The March industry trends are predominantly characterized by food and nutrition, with Sustainable Food claiming the number one position, and Alternative Protein and Functional & Enriched Food rounding out the top three. Interestingly, Customer Satisfaction Monitoring, which occupies the fourth spot, exhibits the most robust year-over-year growth among the top trends.

In February, Vegan and Vegetarian Food surges to the forefront of consumer trends, with Healthy Lifestyle & Wellbeing closely following suit. Shareconomy takes the third place, albeit trailing behind the leading trends. Remarkably, Impact Investing, a trend not commonly observed in the top five, secures the fifth position, underscoring a growing interest in socially responsible investment practices.

In February, Food Tech emerges as the frontrunner among industry trends, boasting a robust momentum despite experiencing a decline in Year over Year growth. Cognitive Care & Mental Health claims the second position, demonstrating not only promising momentum but also modest Year-over-Year growth. It is the only industry trend in the top five showing positive Year-over-Year Growth.

Top 5 Society Trends in February 2024

In February, there’s a notable shift in society trends as Diversity & Inclusion takes the lead, showcasing the strongest momentum among the top five. Global Threats, previously holding the top spot, now moves to second place, exhibiting significantly negative Year-over-Year growth. Climate Change secures the third position.

In January, Miniaturization emerges as the dominant industry trend with remarkable momentum, hinting at significant advancements in related fields like nanotechnology. This trend also exhibits robust year-over-year growth and trend volume. CRISPR/CAS secures the second spot with a formidable momentum, followed closely by Emerging Social Media Platforms, also showcasing notable strength in its trajectory.

Top 5 Society Trends in January 2024

Amidst escalating conflicts in the Middle East, Global Threats surfaces as the society trend gaining the most momentum. Urbanization and Smart Cities, two closely related trends, secure the second and third positions, respectively. Urbanization is the only trend from the previous month’s top five and also advances one position.

Not a single trend from November’s top consumer trends managed to retain its position in December’s top five.

Top 5 Consumer Trends in November 2023

Somewhat surprisingly, Human Enhancement emerged as the number one consumer trend for November. This trend has rarely made it to the top five before. Its momentum was significantly stronger than that of Craftsmanship and Maker Culture, which ranked second and third, respectively. Maker Culture is the only trend from the previous month’s top five that managed to keep its place and the list and even to advance one position.

Among industry trends, Gene & Stem Cell Therapy is, taking the lead at number one, closely followed by Bio Hacking. Both trends displayed similarly strong momentum. Additionally, CRISPR/CAS secured the fourth spot. Notably, none of the top trends from the previous month retained their positions in November’s top five.

Top 5 Society Trends in November 2023

With Global Threats and Fake News, two rather unpleasant trends were dominant among society trends in November. The connection to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the ubiquitous fakes spread on social media related to the conflict is apparent here. New Living Models also boasts a strong performance. None of the top trends from the previous month retained their positions in November’s top five.

E-Mobility leads this month’s industry trends, with Sustainable Food and Renewable Energy trailing closely behind. While the momentum among the top five trends is fairly neck-to-neck, Renewable Energy’s year-on-year growth shows a slight dip.

Digitalization dominates as October’s top societal trend, boasting momentum over fifteen times greater than its nearest competitor, Continuing Education. Global Power Shifts claims the third spot and shows a slightly negative Year-over-Year growth.

It’s worthy of note that Artificial Intelligence, despite slipping to third place, is the solitary industry trend from April to secure a spot in May’s top five list. This suggests its enduring relevance in the sector, even amidst shifting trends.
